Omega General Help / Snapped Cambelt...
« on: 08 May 2011, 17:38:36 »
My camblet has snapped on my 3.2 V6 Elite.

Are they easy to change? Im thinking of doing it on my drive over the nights this week.

a- Why has it snapped?
b - Is it a common thing?
c - Do I need axle stands to do the job?
d - Do I need to take the engine out?
e - Do I need new oil when doing this job?
What oil do you recommend?
f - Do I need to have my bottom end r-skimmed due to cambelt failure?
g - Whats the best cambelt to get and how much are they?

 :'(

Drain the coolant by removing a hose (any hose that has water running through it) then put a hosepipe into the header tank, switch tap on and leave for around 15mins. Should get a nice clean fresh circulation then after re-fill.

Omega General Help / Towing A Horse Box, How Many MPG?
« on: 16 December 2010, 21:04:54 »
My next door neighbour has asked me if he can borrow my Omega for towing their horse box to the odd event, as he usually has to hire vehicles, but ive said he can use my car as long as he pays the petrol! Their next one is in Devon area in Spring.

He wants to know how much in fuel it will  cost him though from Leeds area, LS6 to be precise, down to Devon and the Abbots Bickington area, postcode EX22 to be precise.

how much will this cost in my Omega? Its the 3.1L V6 Elite model that I have.

Bit scary driving a rear wheel drive in the snow isnt it?

I drove home tonight, first trip in the snow in the V6.

I pressed the button ontop of the auto gearstick marked 'S', which I presume is for the snow?

It felt as though the car changed gear later so I presume this is for saftey?

Omega General Help / Helmet Use...
« on: 16 December 2010, 19:31:52 »
Ive done a couple of track days with my Omega. Bit tricky to be honest trying to keep up with the hot hatches through the twisties.

I use an open faced helmet when doing them.

I had a thought. Does anyone know if its legal to wear a helmet in a car on the open roads for general driving?

this will cause a headgasket problem as you are putting too much pressure on the rear axle drive

Where on the rear of the car is the headgasket located? Is it something to do with some seals somewhere? Maybe in the coilover struts or something? Im a bit concerned about this seal going maybe if i use coilovers? Please let me know what your thoughts are on the coilovers?

Did you read my other thread? About the trackdays I do sometimes in my Omega? Well im going this weekend in my V6 and thought about lowering the car for better handling in the twisties as I struggle to keep up with the hot hatches. Its really embarrassing tbh. Trying to race 1992 clit 16v's, williams clits, 205 gti's, astra gte's, i just get whipped in the twisties. Im not too bad against them on the straights though.

Omega General Help / Coilovers...

Im thinking of lowering my Omega at the rear using coilovers. Has anyone used coilovers?

Was the best drop to put on them?

What about using a torsion bar on the front for lowering the springs on the car. Are these expensive?

Sorry for all the questions but ive no experience on lowering cars. Just fancy dropping the Omega slightly, maybe 80mm on the rear?

I dont know why they dont lower cars from factory standard. I consider it a safety feature as its gives better road handling.
