Tuesday was going well. I had been chivvying my dad along with his pre hip operation exercises and use of two crutches. He and my mother were quite upbeat. The phone rings and "sorry, your operation has been postponed. On top of the two wards already closed due to bug contamination your ward has now had to be closed" "Don't know when your operation will be, keep taking the painkillers and tell you son to go back to Spain". 

I am left wondering if a bit more cleaning might have prevented a bug outbreak but who knows?

The good news was that as I didn't need to get up at 5.00 a.m. for the 7 a.m. appointment, I could go out with my brother to a country pub with live music and anyone can join in. What a treat. The main guy was excellent on acoustic guitar (3 with a total value of over £5k). My brother even played a few numbers. Real ale (first for 8 years), lift home and only 8 people turned up and that included the publican who used to sing in a group. Nice end to the day.

Great stuff, glad you had a good time. Bit crap about the op though, been through that quite a few times, it isn't great

My mum had this, she came out of Leicester General on Saturday but her first appointment was canceled.

To say the NHS have F-ed up her post op care would be an understatement though.....so much so her GP is writing to the hospital for an explanation!

A bit of a downer about the op, but sounds like you had a great time. Live music (as long as it is good) in small venues, coupled with a few pints of falling down juice is  always a good night. All the better when unexpected or unplanned, I usually find. Ah real ale ...

After watching the so called cleaners at Frimley Park hospital last year, I'd say you've hit the nail square on the head and driven it all the way through the earths core and on to Australia.

Best wishes to your dad for a speedy resolution to his current predicament.

After watching the so called cleaners at Frimley Park hospital last year, I'd say you've hit the nail square on the head and driven it all the way through the earths core and on to Australia.

Mrs. KW's nan was in that establishment just before Christmas and dropped her earring under the bed. Yours truly volunteered to crawl under and retrieve it and what wasn't lurking under that bed wasn't worth talking about.   Clothes were a mess afterwards.

Problem is, all the staff appear to believe they are above attending to basic needs like a hygienic environment, and, no doubt, whatever private subcontractor is supposed to clean the place charge the public purse a fortune to do as little as they can get away with, in true public-private partnership style.

Bring back a Hattie Jacques style matron and get the staff busy with a mop and bucket rather than pi$$ing about amongst themselves when there's nothing pressing to do.

Back in 1982 I was in St James' Hospital (Balham/Tooting Bec) and only those on a kamikaze mission would consider crossing the ward matron.
All the staff (and a few patients) were "yes matron, no matron, 3 bags full matron" and the wards were so clean you could literally eat your dinner off the floor (which would explain why "superbugs" such as MRSA didn't exist).

The tea (and in fact the food in general) was nothing short of utter shite at Frimley, so much so that I had my meals brought in for me.

I managed to convince the surgeon at the Royal Surrey where I had my second op on my liver that I was well enough to leave on the 3rd day after the op (fastest discharge ever by all accounts for the procedure I had) as I wasn't particularly impressed with that either (but I am a fussy git over what I eat).
Having said that, the food and general level of cleanliness at the Royal Surrey was a 100% improvement by comparison to Frimley.
