It should be just below the mid point on the gauge. About 85-90 on the facelift dash.

80 sounds a tad low, actually, and if it's dropping lower when moving I think you might have a failing thermostat.

Not sure why you say it "smells" hot. Perhaps a coolant or oil leak onto the exhaust manifolds?

Any codes via pedal trick? Temp doest suggest an over heating issue to be too worried about IMO.

:y If its around the 80-90 mark its on track. At least thats where mine lies and I have never had any problems. Just make sure that all the cooling bits are working and in good fettle.....
The eggy smell, so I have been told before, generally points to a failing cat so get them checked.......

On a facelift dash, cruising should be about 85-90C, max if traffic should be around 92C

Prefacelift dash, cruise 93-95C, traffic, 96C

Mine has always "smelled hot" - meaning I understand the condition you are describing - been like that for years even after an engine change in 2008 - I just ignore it and recall this issue has appeared in other threads in the past

Most Omegas seem to run hot ...like by that smell when you get out after a drive.

I put it down to lots of exhaust pipes close to the outter edges of the car..remember they run down both sides until they get to the rear axle so lots to get hot, also the cats are vairly close to the road and as they get very hot they are directly below where you get out of the car so they will throw a lot of heat up .

My opinion is temp is normal and not unduly of concern although if you cam smell " mouldy egg"  then worth getting the cats checked out.
