Best Paint Supplier?
« on: 25 February 2012, 11:18:21 »

Hi guys,

I need to do my rear wheelarches and I was wondering who the best supplier of paint is? I've tried Vauxhall and they will only supply the touch up pens >:( unless they do the work and they insist on doing the whole panel for more than I paid for the car :'(

My code is Z144, which from the forum comes up as 144/86L: Magic Grey Mica (97-99).

Thanks :y

I would suggest finding somewhere that will mix it for you. Most decent motor factors will suggest somewhere if they can't do it :y

Other option is to try and find a tame bodyshop... Basically a smaller place and ask them :y They may even give you a price that surprises you ::)

Yellow pages for auto paint suppliers but don't just quote your paint code to them take the car to them to allow them to use their sample card index to ensure correct shade.
This is absolutley neccessary if you want a good job .
I'm in Ireland but get my paint from Scotland because only water based paints available here .
On my Z489 Champagne I discovered there are nine shades that the supplier could mix . The lightest of which is a 100% match but when my car sits next to another Z489 in town it's an entirely different shade .
Good luck.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies, I've been recommended Gramic from a couple of the local bodyshops here, unfortunately none of them will do the work without doing the whole panel and yet they all said that if I did it myself I could probably get away with it since it's not really showing. Go figure.

Oh well yet another job to add to the list.

Thanks again :y

Is the rust on the underside lip of the arches or has it crept around onto the visible part of the panel ?

Hi Albs,

On the nearside it's a little bubble on the very inside edge , whereas on the offside it's the whole underside with a little bit that has spread round on to the visible edge of the panel. I'll try and get some photos.
