Plug Lead Life
« on: 10 March 2012, 16:24:07 »

Still chasing this mis fire and am starting to suspect plug leads or atleast 1 of them as the culprit as when replaced plugs  in the week #6 lead had the rubber seal boot pull off,but this only looked like an extra protection from moisture getting at base of plug.

Found original receipt and whilst these leads are Magnecor 8mm they have done nearly 105k and are 3.5 years old.Magnecor website gives leads a 10 year warranty but doesnt specify mileage so might be chancing my arm there.

Unfortunatley this is a process of elimination as plugs brand new/dis pack less than 60k or about 28 months old so oldest part of the link is the leads.

Does it sound like they are "past there sell by date " :o

That's a really interesting question as my leads are the originals, done 79k since March 1999  :-\

only way really to tell is to measure the resistance of the leads anything over 20k ohms is to high a resistance and will make the firing voltage at the plug low, aaround 5 to 10k ohms is generally good depending on length of lead, obviously you canot have a zero ohm lead as it uses the resistance to make the spark bigger but to high is bad
