In the US due to gas fracking, the price of gas since 2005 has fallen off a cliff.  :y :y :y :y

In the US in 2005 gas cost $15 / MBTU today it is $2.30 / MBTU.  :y :y :y :y So why has our gas prices gone up so much to be the most expensive in Europe?  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Maybe we all need to write to our MPs and contact the other media and get them to ask the question? Either our energy companies have useless buyers or the UK consumer is be mugged off as usual again?  >:( >:( >:( >:(

i found this hope it helps answer for you

According to Whatprice.co.uk, the forecourt price makes up just 5% of the total cost of petrol, while the cost of oil amounts to a further 32% - but of course it’s taxation that eats up the largest chunk, at a hefty 63% of the price you pay to fill up your car.

At 139.67p a litre, the cost of a litre of petrol breaks down into: 57.95p fuel duty, 23.28p VAT, 52p wholesale, 1.5p biofuel content – with just  4.94p the retailer’s margin and transport costs.

also the uk has a nice reserve of natural gas but not the capacity to store it so they sell it to france, then when demand is high during colder weather we have to buy it back at a hicked up price, appologies about first post thought you meant gas as in petrol due to the united states statement

Because Britain are seen as rich Mugs. No doubt electricity in the future will be the most expensive too.

Well, we're lining up ourselves to be heavily dependant on gas to generate leccy so I'd say that's a certainty.

If only Brown hadn't sold off our gold reserves. Maybe we could burn that instead? ;)
