A while back, I put a post on here ref swmbo's mothers care (or rather the lack of it) and the fun we have been having with her tosser of a brother 

Just a quick note to say thanks to all who contributed to the thead.

After the doctor finally came out and checked her over, we managed to get in touch with the local fall team who payed her a visit.
True to form, she would not entertain them but swmbo manged to get a day off and had a word on her behalf and some progress was made.
They contacted Age Concern on our behalf who also visited.
Yesterday, she had a key safe fitted by the front door and next week, She is having the lifeline system fitted complete with the pendent round her neck.
Various handrails have been fitted around the house.

Swmbo had a little word with her brother about his attitude which made very little difference so I had a word in his ear and politely explaned how much it was upsetting her 
That made a difference   

The old git wouldn't entertain a stairlift but now we got the ball rolling so to speak, we will work on that one in the future 

Just want to say thanks for all the comments and advise

Sounds like progress. There is a lot of help out there but getting it and getting the person to accept it is another battle. Small steps.

As far as the brother is concerned, he won't change. It is just in some peoples makeup. The dad dies in a large family. Some of the children get really upset about it and one doesn't even bother attending the funeral. It is just how some folk are.

Yes, he has squared up to me 2 or 3 times in the last 20 years 

1st time, swmbo tapped me on the shoulder and I walked away.
2nd time, it was headlock with 2 fingers up his nose and I dragged him out of our house.
3rd time, was when I had my head up my arse about 5 years ago  (business / money / personal sh*t) and he lost in a very big way

95% of the time, I can't stand the man and have had to bite my lip quite a few times over the years then he will just go out and do the most heart warming act of generosity 
I know he has been a bit of a bast*rd to swmbo over the years.

Over the last few years, he has been attracted to one of his neighbours.
Not a bad lass but she has had a few problems with blokes over the years and gets a bit screwed up from time to time.
If from what I've been told, he came on heavy and she pushed him away.
He didn't get the message and next thing I know i've got him banging on my door asking me about a certain character from my youth.  Turns out, said character is the neighbours son and is going to (his words here) take him for a drive with some lads, a gallon of petrol and a spade and scare the sh*t out of him because he won't leave her alone.
Had a word and smoothed it over but tbh, because he has never really had a life, he just hasn't got a clue how to conduct himself in the real world 
Shame really because swmbo's mum was 89 years old yesterday and she isnt going to last forever.
When she's gone, the only family he will have left is me and his sister
