I don't know what the proper term is.

The 'disc' on the rear brakes is a disc brake, so when you operate the foot brake, the pads apply friction to the disc in the usual way to stop the car. However the disc has a 'deeper bit' (told you i don't know the technical term) that acts as a drum, on the inside of which is the handbrake shoes, which apply friction to the inside of the 'drum'.

So it's like a disc/drum combined if that makes sense?

BTW, i think the required efficiency for the handbrake on the MOT is only 15 or 16 % or something like that

As Geoff says all Omega Bs have drum brakes for the hand brake. It's just that the inside of the 'hat' of the disc is the drum.

Which is why, when properly adjusted, the Omega handbrake actually works (unlike my other car(s) with calliper actuated handbrakes..) :)

I'm a big fan of the design - although I suspect I won't be when I come to getting the discs off the back of the Jag axle in the garage! 20 years of neglect probably means they'll be welded on (like the front discs were) ;D

Thats not a given, its all depends which way round the adjusters have been fitted..... :y

I changed my rear discs and the shoe were ok, I couldn't adjust the compensator bar (too tight) so I adjusted it at the "Star" adjusters and my lever was at a nice height.
Since then, my H/B lever is slowly creeping higher!!!! I'm gonna need to change my cable too...

did you not have braking problems with the shoes on the discs

I'm sure this has already been said but....
I changed all 4 discs and pads, and the shoes inside the drum section of the rear discs were ok, that is to say that they had plenty of friction material but I did scuff them up with some course sand paper and re-assembled it all, I adjusted the rear shoes using the aforementioned "star adjusters" my H/B lever then sat 4 clicks up but now it's creeping up so... I need to fit a new cable... I think.... Maybe new shoes too....

Before going near the cable, two questions

1) Was the cable very slack when you adjusted the rear shoes
2) Do you do as per the owners manual and lightly apply the handbrake for 100m or so every few months?

If the answer to 1) is no or dont know then it needs re-doing with the cable slack.

If the answer to 2) is yes then it simply needs checking and maybe the adjuster on the shoes nipping up
