Sticky starter motor - lube or replace?
« on: 18 April 2012, 18:55:00 »

Not that I haven't got a list of jobs as long as my arm, but my starter motor is getting ever the more reluctant to turn the engine over. It's not done bad, getting on for 165k...

...if I'm on my back removing it (no doubt with rain running into my eyes), is it worth popping it out and cleaning the electrical connections and sticking some GT85 (other lubricants are available) through it... or should I just pop a decent used one on instead?

I nearly bought a starter once, it was a tenner. I then thought that I hadn't heard of anyone needing one for a Mig for years. I personally would clean up yours & stick it back in, (better the Devil you know etc).   :y

:y It doesn't seem to be a common topic on here. Out with the spanners and lube then...
