Unfortunately it looks like I'll be swapping the Alphas to the rear to prolong the life so things could get interesting ::)

On the subject of SC3's I note there are at least two versions, standard and stengthened sidewalls, giveaway is the bigger rim protection lip and the writing on the tyre and speed rating.

Strengthened side walls? Or Rim protection? Anyway, that's what I have. 93Y iirc.

Sorry wrong description, should really have said 'load range', there is an SL and an XL rating.

I believe it's to do with the ply rating and it relates to standard load and extra load?

Stiffness of the sidewall ;) I prefer XL (normally about 97 I think) as it's a stiffer sidewall so less flex, but that's on standard elite wheels... On a reduced sidewall depth on 18's I would probably go for standard like Gayboy has :y

Yes have XL rated SC3's on the rear and SL rated SC3's on the front of my V6, from a visual perspective the rim protection is more pronounced on the XL's.

Tonights disaster is a screw in the 1/4 worn Dunlop SP Sport Maxx on the back of the DTi.  >:( Wouldn't have minded the front as there's only a few 1000 left on them... so now I need to buy four tyres....  Could really have done done without spending that money this month. Think i'm going to go with either Toyo T1R's (Had these on it when I got it and they suit it well) or possibly Kuhmo E39's or Accelera Alphas.

If the screw is in the tread area can't you have it repaired ???

Yep it's in the tread, but i was under the impression you couldn't have a Z rated tyre plugged / repaired?

If it can be repaired then i'll probably do that as it's got about 6mm of tread on it and is matched to the other side. Even if the pair end up as spares it will at least buy me some time as the fronts really need doing....

Popped a pair of 9090's on spare wheels on the back for tomorrow, just about managed to dodge the rain!

Can be done, but as with any tyre, once repaired it "loses" it`s respective rating

Repaired today, hopefully that will buy me some time as I need to get a Geo done and the other two tyres replaced.
