I jacked up the rear on the donut bolt went up ok , released hand brake to check wheel bearings and the wheel dropped to the floor jacked a bit more but body going up but not wheel stopped didnt like what was happening. Is this normal and why would the wheel drop when I took hand break off. can I keep jacking it up more to get wheel off ground

It is quite normal for the wheel to drop down- suspension travel. The shock absorber eventually stops it.

I used to use the provided car jack to do the rear end lifting. Once high enough to remove wheel, then I supported the body work and put a surplus wheel under the cill.
