The wife got a nasty looking chip on the windscreen on the motorway today, frightened the life out of her. I went onto the autoglass website at about 7 o'clock and filled in all the details. I must say it was really simple, even she could have done it herself . Booked an appointment for Sunday between 11 and 1 o'clock and printed off the details.
I got a phone call about half seven confirming the appointment and telling me it would be a tenner (the excess). I asked if she wanted my policy number. No, already got all your details from DVLA, been in touch with your insurer, see you Sunday.

Autoglass are the best windscreen firm by far.  I used to be a windscreen fitter, and I worked for them for 3 years.  Properly professional outfit.  When searching for car insurance, top of my list of essentials is that they use Autoglass.  If they don't, I keep looking.

Agreed, went to see them recently regarding a chip and there were very friendly and helpful........... Turns out the screen needs replacing tho

Windscreens need to be considered as a consumable item.  They take quite a hammering over the years, and the occasional chip or crack is inevitable at some point.

Unfortunately, as manufacturers make the screens bigger, with move curves, and build more technology built into them, they are becoming very expensive.  It is an absolute false economy nowadays to have an insurance policy that does not include windsceen cover.  You might save a few quid a year, but you'd need to keep those savings in a piggy bank under your bed for many years to cover the cost of a new screen.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that there currently screen on fairly normal, run of the mile cars that would cost well in excess of £1000 to replace!!

I recently had dealings with Autoglass, and wasn't impressed!    I've posted about this before but I'll do it again!! 

They quoted me £750 for a screen for the Mig, when I laughed she dropped it to £620, and then to £395!!!    Talk about a bunch of rather' chancers!!! 

If these are the sort of prices that they're charging insurance companies, no wonder premiums have gone through the ozone layer!!! 

Incidently I got my screen from a local outfit for £132 inc and a tidy job they did too!!!!

Got the screen replaced in my previous Mig by a local chap for £100 cash. He did an excellent job too.
Got the screen replaced in my current car (although I cant remember why) for an extremely small amount of money (Twiglet can reveal the exact amount if he wishes) by a very professional Autoglass fitter who happened to be on his way home from work.
The price included an almost new windscreen from a late Omega with fitment for rain sensor/autodim mirror.
Which reminds me.I still havent wired in the mirror,or even looked into wiring in the sensor.

Right. So autoglass are very good as long as the ins company is paying. I did expect someone to burst my bubble, there's always an angle.

Always found the fitters to be very good, although obviously that's luck of the draw.

From previous experience and conversations, I know they charge insurers well in excess of £500 to fit an omega screen. GM charge £272 odd plus for the top of the range rain sensor heat reflective mig screen.

Although a chip can be repaired obviously.

i had a massive argument with them years ago,wanted £1000 to fit new rear screen into my toyota carina E estate,called toyota and they quoted me £250 ish so called them back asking why they are more expensive than the local dealer,there reply was we are and we dont care
