Trade ins, took the plunge
« on: 30 May 2012, 17:44:23 »

Been thinking for a while about getting home trader insurance but when my normal renewal came in at £850 I thought what the hell might as well look into it. Bit of a minefield it is ! Ended up with Fully comp with a max indemnity of £7500 per car and I can have as many as I want , would have preferred £5000 limit as that would cover what I plan to trade. My own car is covered and any cars in my custody such as doing repairs etc and I can text the reg of any new cars to get them covered instantly.

Price......quotes from£1350 to £17,000 :o :o :o :o, chipped the lowest down to £1195 in the end so I had better get bloody selling to pay for it, hoping to add the Mrs and her car onto the policy in the future but apparently adding any extra driver has become inexplicably expensive recently !!

Does this seem reasonable or what you would have  expected to pay?

My traders is with NIG and last year I paid around £1150 for both myself and Swmbo and that covers both of us on all our vehicles plus obviously customers cars and any sales vehicles,Not 100% on what value of vehicles but £20k max each springs to mind.

Mine's a full time traders policy and stands me in at about £1800 for myself, SWMBO and an employee, all fully comp on any vehicle with a £15k (I think, could be £20k) own vehicle indemnity. Add in the Public and Employers Liability cover and it's about £2300. Adding a driver was about £400 IIRC but remember that (unlike normal policies) all the drivers could have an accident in different motors and claim at the same time ;)
