Oh my rather god i just got back from test driving 2 manuals and i have one question how on earth does anyone think that gearbox is acceptable that has to be the worst gearbox i have ever driven they  feel like there sat in a bowl of egg custards and have such a long throw on them that the auto would be quicker, than the journey between gears in the manual. Is this general feeling or is it just me?

Is it different in the MV6? Surely no one can say that, that is a nice gearbox can they?

I'm happy with the manual box in mine.  I do not do lots of motorway cruising but do lots of countryside, back lanes, across the county type driving.  I find the manual more interesting, keeping me more involved with the car, rather than a point and squirt auto...

As said at the start, horses for courses and personal preference and all that....

Personal opinion - I am happy that I could comfortably, all other things being equal and when placed side by side, out drag an auto version of the same car and arrive at destination well ahead of the auto without undue effort....

..... cue alternate views!   ;D

I take it then you have never driven an Escrap or Orion - those gearboxes are rubbish - I ended up destroying one because it wouldn't do 1-2 but did 1-4 instead.

These were pool cars in a previous job and replaced some Rover 216 (Ballade type)
