Decorating: Dush sheets, arghhhhhhhhh ..........
« on: 24 August 2012, 12:00:11 »

Ok, I've been decorating for several weeks and prior to starting emptied the lounge except for the leather sofa. I've always fancied some of those nice thick "hessian" fabric dust sheets so bought several. A couple to move around around with me as I painted etc, and a large one to drape over the sofa.

I've now "finished" and have just removed the dust sheet from the sofa.  :o

Shock / horror, the sofa was very dusty indeed. No paint splashes but the dust seems to have gone straight through the dust sheet due to it being a thick fabric with a coarse weave.  :'(

Next time I'm in B&Q I must read what it says on the packaging - probably something like "these dust sheets are not dust proof". Not much I can do about it now TBH.

I'll be cleaning the sofa this afternoon before SWMBO gets home  :'(

I guess next time I'll use plastic sheeting.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm actually glad it's leather as it should clean off ok whereas fabric would be a pig to get the dust out of .............

Hey ho .............  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

I use large white sheets they came from the hospital who were chucking them out. :y :y
Dust doesn't get through them but you can see where they've been when you remove them. ;D ;D

I have been in the trade since the sixties, and it does not matter what you cover stuff with, if you are making a lot of dust, it finds its way through.
Incidently, I use plastic backed hession sheets. The cheaper hessian sheets are not that much good for stopping paint like emulsion seeping through. Cotton sheets are good, but I still recommend the plastic backed. :y
Bear in mind, even if dust does not get through, it will sit on the surface of the sheet, so if you are not careful when de-sheeting, you will end up in a dust cloud !!!! :y
