Door Strap Problems
« on: 13 September 2012, 16:18:34 »

The drivers door wont stay open in the locked position.  It seemed to go in stages and now wont stay open on any part of its movement.

Is it a mechanism that has failed or might it need adjusting or has some other part failed?

Check the door stay .. the shiny bit that goes in and out of the door as it opens and closes.

It "should" be fixed at the body end and goes through two roller things which drop into the detents in the stay to hold it in the open and intermediate positions.

Problems that can arise ...

The mechanism at the door side gets torn out if the system is not kept serviced/lubricated (there is a large force acting here),and, the whole caboodle is loose inside the door. there is a repair kit /procedure .. think its in the guides somewhere

The roller things get stuck in the "out" position and don't drop in to the detents... a good clean/lubricate might fix

A good look whilst the door is moved should give you the answer

Cheers Entwood, the door did creek a lot and the 1st stage of opening /locking stoped a while ago, then the fully open click lock stage faild.

Got to strip the mirror switch to have a look at it as both door mirrors only tilp and towards the kerb, both sides fail to tilt down and right, so not sure if there is a joint problems or switch problems till I have a look. :-\

Does your mirror move left/right when going to different memory settings? It's probably the switch & has failed/is failing due to lack of use.  ;)

I also had this problem and got new parts including the repair strips but unfortunately it had ripped out the steel so it cannot be repaired ... will have to live with it as just a hinge
