Front drivers door check strap needed.
« on: 22 September 2012, 16:28:47 »

3.0 Elite (1999 V)

Heard a bit of a squeaking then a cracking while on holiday when the drivers door opened and closed so I applied some aerosol grease then silence after it had worked its way into the inards. The check strap is still in place and stops the door from opening fully as it should but it will not hold in place like it used to. The retaining plates do not look damaged, a close inspection with a lamp and magnifier showed no cracks and the strap is secure in the door. The bush in the A frame pillar is sound.
I suspect that the retaining spring inside the door panel has either come adrift or has come off.
Either way I would rather replace the door check strap than fool around trying to repair it then finding I can't and have to replace the door panels only to take them off again when I discover it has to be replaced. Its a two day wait at VX and VX wants me to pay near on 40 notes at trade cost for one :-\
Anyone?

I will replace them anyway but the problem is that the strap will not keep the door open in either of its 2 positions. That make me think the internal spring is kaput. ::)
