rough running 2.5 petrol engine
« on: 16 September 2012, 11:30:08 »

Ive had a few problems with my 2.5 petrol, it has been running lumpy (popping on idle) and it stinks of rotten eggs when warm. Ive been getting faultcode 133 intake voltage 2 volts low, any ideas

First off pull your plug leads and see if there is any oil in there.
If they are dry, proceed to the pack  :(
If the coilpack is on its way out, they tend to split underneath the pack so you can't see it from the top.
To remove the pack you need to (and believe me, i've done loads  ::)

Wiper arms
Plastic trim infront of the windscreen (watch out for the small clips under the rubber)
Me, I tend to unbolt the plenum and move it to the left.

You have 4 bolts that hold the pack down onto the metal shelf.
Its a bit of a tw*t to get out but it will go  ;D

The coil pack on a 2.5 / 3ltr is on the back of the engine on the right hand side.
If it is your coilpack, if you looking to keep the car for a few years its best to replace it with a bosch one.  There not cheap but it will last a lot longer then the pattern ones.

You will find that the popping is unburnt fuel caused by a weak spark and the fuel is not burning properly.
If you leave it too long, you may end up knackering one of your cats because the fuel tends too collect in there then when it gets hot enough it will burn the cat out

Faulty crank sensor could bring up several codes and the eml so replace the cs. did you replace it with a genuine vx sensor or a cheap after market item. doubt it will be the MAF .
