Head gasket parts 2.2 Genuine or not?
« on: 19 October 2012, 11:31:34 »

Just been working out pricing up parts for my head gasket which is needed on the mig.

Decided to do the EGR blank as well, and clean throttle body and breathers so those gaskets too.  Getting exhaust manifold studs & nuts (genuine) just in case, already got oil, filter and antifreeze and already done spark plugs, no reason to suspect cam sensor.

Parts being considered to get genuine are:
Head gasket set inc head bolts
Timing belt kit inc water pump
Aux drive belt

So options are - genuine (andyc!) or pattern (ebay or local motor factors)

Total for genuine bits is coming in at around £320 inc vat and delivery
Total for pattern bits is coming in at around £135 inc vat and delivery

Quite a difference there, so really need to know what out of the list above REALLY should be genuine.  I would prefer to get everything genuine, but cannot afford to do so, so something will have to give. Guessing the aux drive belt is a given as if that snaps then it is more annoying rather than damaging!

If it helps, the pattern HG set is from trechii, the timing belt is either FAI or Gates, either one better?

Thoughts please people... :-\

Ok for pattern on this I think, although you need a decent multi-layer exhaust manifold gasket  :y

I'd go pattern, just make sure the head bolts are of some reasonable quality.

As tunnie implies, maybe genuine exhaust manifold gasket, or at least a MLS style pattern one.

Thanks. Checked with trechii and it is a heavy duty multi layered manifold gasket. I assume his bolts can be trusted as much as the head set - MarkCalib??

:) Personally I always now go for the OEM (with trade card) after many hard lessons on life length and reliability of the pattern stuff. It eneded up costing me more by having to do the same job over........how boring and sad is that ::)
Always use new fasteners too with coppaslip. End of the day its your choice and pockets, just choose wisely cos the blame for mistakes only lies in the choice..... ;)
