Sky TV
« on: 29 April 2008, 19:38:05 »

I was thinking of getting Sky TV here as BFBS TV is poo, geared more to the beer swilling, football hooligan soldier than the cheese and wine quaffing occifer. So.....

To cut a long story short, can anyone tell me what the deal is with 'marrying' a card to a digibox?  And if I got a second hand box and a new card with subscription (Ihave a source before anyone ask!) would I be able to 'marry' the box and card together?

As always, thanks in advance! :y

Nope not at all, I cannot steal it would put my job in jeapordy.

But I have heard that a card is 'married' to a box hence why you cant just take your card round to your mates and watch the rugger on his 42" screen.  I am getting a second hand digibox and a legit subscription card.  Now is it 'married' on first use to the box it is put in or does it have to be set by Sky according to the serial number?  Anyone know?

Sky are doing deals at the moment whereby for £30 you get a card and all the new equipment, box and dish, fitted, with card and of course working.  If you intend to obtain the card legitimately, with subscription (which then must be in your name & registered with Sky), why muck around with second hand equipment that you have to fit and line up with a satellite at I believe 19.2 degrees to the south-east for the sake of 30 quid! :-? :-?

If the new card does work on old equipment, and I believe it will, you still have the hassle of setting it all up! :-?

I hope this gives you food for thought! :question! :y

I'm not sure you'll get the full packages if you regsiter it at an overseas address. I think the choice is much more limited so may be best to set it up using details of a Uk relative, for example, and then take the kit out with you.

friend of mine has a couple of boxes in the house and only one card, as he moves from room to room so the card goes with him.

The box in the living room is brand new, the others are second hand ones that he has picked uver the years.

The only thing he can't do is have two of them running at the same time as he only has the one card

Unfortunately despite offering the installation team a ferry ticket and a room at Chateau Gaffers they wont let me have one legitimately being based in Germany.  This is due to the licenses they have purchased.  Of course their policy is if they dont know then they dont do anything, if they have any idea you are abroad they will deactivate your card  :(

I also have a dish in place and pointing at the satelite required from the previous tennants, winner!!!!  :y

So All I need is a box and a subscription though a 3rd party supplier and Roberts your fathers brother!  Box is on its way and I just now have to get through to Fritz and order a card  ;)

I sold my LHD Granada to a bloke who planned to fill it up with set-top boxes of some sort and drive them to Spain where he could sell them to the expats for a huge profit.

He'd done it a few times - new old car each time, one way trip.  Somewhere in Spain there must be a graveyard for old British registered LHD motors :)

Don't think this helps you a great deal, though...
