Purely hypothetical........

But had Enoch been alive and delivered that speech after the recent riots, what do you think the reaction would have been to it ;)

The same as before, or fuelled more riots, from whatever faction......supporting or against ?
Just interested to know what you think.....

You know my opinion     send the freakers back to their country of origin ;D ;D

His concerns about uncontrolled mass immigration were correct imo,but to use the phrase "the black man will have the whip hand" and the mention of foaming red like the river Tiber etc. were very insensitively worded, and very easily (mis?) construed to include all immigrants and all black/non white people, thus feeding the mentality of mindless racists rather than people who had genuine concerns about an almost complete lack of control on our borders.
The stigma from that lasted long enough for anyone who had concerns about the more recent wave of completely uncontrolled immigration to be immediately shouted down as a mindless racist.
I just wish he had worded it differently.
An absolutely fascinating character though imo, whose whole life unfortunately has been largely ignored apart from certain parts of that one speech.

I totally agree, Alb ;) Shame

If I had to choose an MP from this generation it would Frank Field from the left and Michael Portillo from the right. Both seem to be slightly more trustworthy than most of them.

As for Enoch Powel's speach, if you replace the fraize "black man" will have the whip hand and replace it with " non indignious / imigrant" then he had it spot on so Enoch gets my vote for best MP.

Agree with Albtz about David Davis being a decient type.
He does a hell of alot of running around on behalf of his constituents and comes across as someone you could actually trust.

As for the worst, without doubt its got to be that true socialist and champion of his own ego / back pocket the working man, John Prescott.  >:(
The man who claims that a few weeks as a pish pot emptier on the SV Spiero before he managed to wangle himself a nice cozy job collecting the union subs outside the pay office on the docks on his ::) >:(
Not a bad starter job on the long hard working employment road upto the house of lords and ruler of the Soviet Socialist Republic of East Hull.
