TD starter motor, easy to change?
« on: 05 December 2012, 19:41:20 »

I need to get my starter off, either to change, or possibly just to clean the terminals. I have never taken a TD one off before, and it looks a right Pig, anyone ever swapped one?    :-\

Just be careful of the paper manifold gaskets

I took mine off with the manifold already off, it looked rather tight for space with it on. I've got one spare if you need it.

Just to make things awkward.... the last one I remember removing I think we did from the bottom.... but after that we were taking the transmission out!!

I can't properly remember, I was with LB66, if that's any indicator of how long ago it was... :y

Good point, always a gamble, if I don't get any I will rip the old one, and if I do get one, the old gasket will come off in one piece!  :-\

Sorted, delayed things & did the job in my mate's heated garage. Thanks to JonnyboyWS6 for the starter.

Glad to be of assistance. Keeps another Omega going and my pile of spares-I-will-probably-never-use has shrunk slightly, so everyone's a winner!

I appreciate the help, but just refused to do it in the drive at minus several degrees!  Only took an hour, and it was pure pleasure working in a cosy garage for a change.  :y
