Auto gear change
« on: 14 December 2012, 09:47:24 »

Hi all....

Its only happened twice, but want to catch early if possible. Pulled away and the box stayed in its lowest gear....revs went up to 4 so I let off and then revved up again, and then let off, and then it went through the gears ok.....drove perfect for a couple of days, then did the the same yesterday. Worked perfect again since.
Any ideas  ;)

If its cold (and it has been) it's just doing exactly what it should do .... holding lower gear to warm up faster.

On the first pull away of the day my auto box does not change up immediately either. I think its part of the warm up process. Especially in cold weather, like now!  :-\
Just set off steadily, not good to rev a cold engine anyhow.
Failing that . . .i don't know.  :-[

Car was not cold when it happened....just done 3 miles, stoped to push let swmbo out, pulled away (slight slope), and it happened.
I have no lights showing...would the 'pedal trick' show something if there is a fault :)

Oh, ok. First thing, get the fluid level checked. that can only be done from underneath, on level ground.  :-\

Thanks Bixy1....I think I'll have to wait till next week...I have to stay in Brackley this weekend, so I will use the 2.5 till I can sort the 2.6. May book it it for oil change and gearbox oil change, can't do any harm. Now I think about it, I think the second time was going uphill too ;)

its part of the warm up process to get the cats up to temp, the auto-box hangs on to the gear longer when cold.

If cold, the change up point is 3k on mine.

...and it will hold on to lower gears going down a hill, to stop the car "running away", as auto's tend to, and rev a little more going uphill to hold revs.

While on the one hand, Auto Addict had similar sounding description of the problem, and changed the ecu which cured it. Opti has posted, along with others, that they find it annoying that the auto will hold a lower gear going down hill, meaning a bit of accelerator is required to maintain speed, depending on the hill of course.

My 3.2, if the sport mode button is pressed.... Actually no, scratch that. Is it just that the software is different between the pre and face lift models? They wil not drive and change gear the same, as the pre face lift has a different ecu and received a few more software updates than the face lift drive by wire engines.

I was forgetting, there's no point comparing to mine, given the above.

On the omega box, the software is designed to rev the engine higher to warm the cats quicker. As mentioned, it's in the owners manual.

Pressing sport mode, (or snow mode) will see normal change up points resume, even if the desired temp is not met. I press sport mode briefly every morning driving up my road, as it's annoying and the change is a bit lurchy otherwise. That aside the gear changes should be the same on reasonably flat ground.
