Help with re-homing dog
« on: 28 December 2012, 19:51:59 »

Due to a very recent bereavement I`ve been `net browsing for dog welfare/sanctuaries who accept German Shepherds. Tried a couple with no luck. Does anyone have any recommendations within a 20-40 radius of Bristol (possibly further)? Thanks

have you tried GSD Rescue, they have a page on facebook. they are ardent gsd fans and only have the breeds interest at heart.(no i'm not a member, my experiences with them turned to failure in the end due to no fault of theirs) had this post arrived later this year i may have been able to help personally !

Tried them and because it`s a white long-haired shepherd they`re not interested "as the general public prefer the black & tans".
So much for having the interests of the dog first and foremost ???

thanks for your reply rob, you've just confirmed something the boss lady and i have been considering for a while now. something about head and a--e, (sorry forgot two consonents r and s) very suprised over their comments about white shepherds as thought they were rather sought after. can you give me a timescale and i'll see if i can find a home for it. also can you pass over some details about age, gender also hip scoring if possible. i also have a gsd who doesn't have too much longer !

It was the brother-in-laws who sadly passed away Boxing Night, (lived on his own).
All we know about "Zac" is that he was purchased by a middle-aged lady @ six months old (no papers). When he was around 14 months the owner was offered to move to Jersey and live with her married daughter. She was a "fare" in BiL`s taxi and he said he would have the dog.
Dog has no vices (except cats) and isn`t too keen on other dogs. When I say "long-haired" I mean long. As BiL lived in local council property it`s essential to re-home asap. At present neighbour is looking after him re; feeds & walks but obviously dog senses something amiss.

Not sure about this anymore as it's many years since we bred and showed GSD's but. Tried them and because it`s a white long-haired shepherd they`re not interested "as the general public prefer the black & tans". In the breed standard it used to state that : White dogs are undesirable in the breed, and cannot be shown...  :(

Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

Probably explains why the "whites" seem to have a better temperament and far fewer health problems ... nowhere near as "inbred" in trying to obtain some mythical "perfect to the standard" dog .... KC have a lot to answer for in ruining good breeds IMHO
