Water pump belt guide plate
« on: 01 January 2013, 17:31:13 »

Driving home the other day heard a scraping noise from the engine bay. Noted it was from cam belt area, had no tools, only had a couple of miles to go so risked it.

Taken the cover off today and found this floating around

Close inspection found it is the plate that guides the belt around the water pump pulley

I notice the belt is over the outer edge of the pump pulley and this would appear to have forced this plate off

So the questions are;
Is this just bad design of the pump and will be ok from now? (not a vx one)
Could the belt have moved out of position? Given the belt guide pulleys have edges to prevent this
If the belt has moved out could this be a problem with the guide pulleys ?
There has been some slight wear to the outer edge of the cam belt. Anyone think this is bad ? (silverish bit to LHS of sprocket of pic below)

I fitted this belt in August and it looks OK over the cam sprockets, crank and tensioner as far as I can tell

You need to investigate why it forced that ring off. Is the pump's pully not in line with others, or is something causing belt to run that way....

So replaced the water pump today, new one FOC from supplier as I had receipt. result  :y :y

The belt was in correct position everywhere else and my mechanic mate it was just a duff pump  ???

Driving back from my mates garage that I did it in and it starts misfiring, LPG switches off and emissions light comes on. Hope it's a plug or the coil pack and not the head gasket AGAIN  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
