Deaths door!
« on: 11 January 2013, 17:25:30 »

Not the car so much but the actual drivers door. I think its trying to kill me.......................

Over the past couple of evenings driving home its taken to opening itself up for some reason. What happens is this, driving along then all of a sudden you hear a feint click and the door catch has released. Its got to the stage now  where I am driving with one hand on the wheel and the other holding the door just in case. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening all of a sudden?

In case its relevant the central locking motor on the drivers door is a little lazy but its been like that now for a couple of months, you might say its on my 'to do' list but this new problem is somewhat urgent. Is there a solenoid or something that releases the catch that is playing up maybe?

Many thanks folks  :)

So is it just the latch then?

if your door is opening by itself without prior warning , almost certainly the latch is worn and not holding shut. its a case of removing the door card, the screws holding the latch to the door and removing the outer handle but not adjusting the plastic cup that locates the rod for the outer handle !

If rod, connecting lock and lever is bent, it is pulling lock open.

As expected and as suggested by all it was the door catch. Thanks to Albitz fitted the replacement he supplied and now all is well apart from the drivers door central locking being sluggish so there's a new thread on the horizon!
