Agree with diags above and that difficult to deal with from a distance.

Worth try booting off win7 disc to recovery mode.  Then try bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot to see if that clears it.
Or use an XP boot Cd to recovery mode then try fixmbr and fixboot.
Or obtain a boot CD containing GParted - and use its tools to try and overwrite mbr.

If you are successful in writing a new mbr, I would recommend you completely clear all partitions and do a fresh windows install.

120GB  :o. Ordered a 250GB for £35.99. Do I just put in my recovery discs and then away I go as normal with the new HDD?

Fairly standard for DELL .. they have a tendency to spec stuff slightly differently to standard, so standard stuff doesn't fit ... om PC power supplies the attachment holes were about 1" different to normal, and a "lug" on the casing .....   removable with a dremel and drill a new hole for the screws and a standard PSU would fit ..  DELL price £96 .. standard price £31  .. did a fair few of them in the past.

What they do to HDD nowadays I don't know, they may do nowt ... but do a proper comparison first .. preferably by trying to fit a standard one before you buy one ... shame you are not closer as I have several in different specs knocking about.

If a standard one fits you'll pay nowhere near that price !!

I bought a Western Digital 250GB from eBay, it says it's for a DELL Inspiron 1525. Thanks for the help mate, much appreciated. DELL's prices are hugely inflated  :o :o.
