V6 2.5 lump - did the cam cover gaskets at the weekend, all put together and doesn't want to start.

I was meticulous (or so I think) in putting everything back as it was, all plugs and sockets, pipes routed nicely without risk of chaf, checked and doubled checked at every stage and took my time.

Codes 12 and 31 flashing on dashboard with paperclip test.

Just in case, crank sensors swapped between other good working car, so definately know they are alright.

Only code 12 flashes when engine turning over, and counted at least 6 times with no other codes showing - didn't want to try any longer in case of flattening battery. Code 12 just start of sequence, so meaningless really.

Looks like I'm going to have to strip off plenum and have a good check around, but thought I'd just ask the question here in case anyone may have any ideas that would cause engine not to start?

I had once the same on one 2,5 Omega, did thermostat and after assembly it did not start. All was put together as well as possible, enough fuel and battery was full but still, it took dozens of tries, kept cranking it and was already worried about burning the starter motor while cranking, and finally decided that I will try it until it burns; had to crank it several times still, at least a minute per try, it started to "promise", struggled and then all of a sudden it started and ran as sweet as a 2,5 can.

I still do not know what was wrong. Fuel was coming to the injection rail as always, kept the ignition on for a few seconds to make sure it has pressurized the system etc as usual but still it too ages to start it.  :-\

Thanks for your offer James - much appreciated. I've just had the plenum off to have a delve around at the back of the bay, and have found dis pack plug not seated properly - looks like it doesn't tab down. Typical - one item I didn't remove, but looks like I disturbed it.

Back to basics - silly things!

Just gonna put it all back together, so should have some good news within the hour.

Yes.... all fine now, was the dispack plug had become dislodged. Just goes to show!

Sorry for clogging the forum up with silly things, but always best to check other things whilst you're in the difficult to get to places. Hindsight! :o

Thanks for the replies.
