TC oil query
« on: 03 February 2013, 21:20:10 »

Hi guys,

I went with my mate to get his new car today. Agter all my advice he ignored it and went for a Renault  ::) :D. Anyway it's a 53 plate Megane hatchback (the one with the funky butt) and it's a 1.9 TDi.

Just working out some figures for him for the upcoming service I'll do for him and really wanted to get the oil from Vx due to the hefty TC discount.

Now, I bought diesel oil before for a Mercedes I did a service on but can't remember what grade it was. A quick look on the website shows 5w 30 Dexos 2. Is that the diesel oil? And do you know if it's fully synthetic as apparently this engine needs FS.

Cheers dudes.

Ps, I dis try and find out but TC site only lists the name as that above... it only mentions the 10w 40 being semi... thought that was quite odd  :-\

5w30 dexos2 is fully synthetic and comes under 4 for 3 offer under TC.  I used this grade for my Jag - 4 x 5 lits for approx £60.  HTH mate  :y

It's not specifically a "diesel" oil, but I'm sure it'll be fine in a diesel engine. You'd be hard pushed to find such a high spec oil elsewhere for that price IMHO..

.. and I'm sure the manufacturer only specifies a fully synth oil because the service interval is long. Change it every 3-5k and semi-synth would be fine too, I'm sure.

Dexos II is definitely fully synthetic and (IIRC) is promoted as being good for petrol & diesel.
