SWMBO borrowed my Elite!
« on: 14 February 2013, 11:56:31 »

As above as I am doing the brakes on her Jazz, which have shims on all pads, and two, including a stainless outer, on the inner front pads! I am using Pagid pads which do not come with shims, and in any case the front pads are not designed to hold the shims in place, has anyone experienced problems when not using shims? Research suggests it is not a serious problem. :y

if shims are fitted to your caliper and the new pads you have dont fit with the shims in are you sure they're the right pads  :-\

my understanding (correct me if i'm wrong folks) is that the shims are there to hold in place the brake pads and reduce noise. if the caliper has shims i'd be wanting to keep them. check the parts you got  :y

Not on these, they merely increase the total pad thickness, but are also to help reduce brake squeal. Many users have omitted them without problems, but I was wishing to tap any experience with these particular ones on here. :y

Is there a coating on the back of the pad? Pagid pads for Sprinters and Canters have a coating instead of the shims

No coating on these. I'm just annoyed that Eurocarparts want £10 odd for the front shims separately whereas the pads were only £17.75 (trade), this means that they are only £8 cheaper than Honda's own which come with shims. I've ordered some from Euro anyway and will be interested to see how the shims are kept in place, as the the back edge of the pads are sloping rather than square to hold the shim tabs. :y
