Compression Test Results :)
« on: 14 February 2013, 20:59:25 »

Hi guys,

As above, broke out the compression test kit tonight  8) only PITA was getting those violet relays out for the pump and injectors  :( stuck solid they were... but I don't give up that easy  8) ::) Even managed to get to pot 6 with no problem :):)

Anyway ::)...

Dry test results:

Pot 1 - 215psi
Pot 2 - 210psi
Pot 3 - 210psi
Pot 4 - 215psi
Pot 5 - 205psi
Pot 6 - 210psi

SADLY I went to do the wet test, just for completeness......................and i've not got any oil lol  :'( what a mistaker to maker  ::)

But what do we think of the results.... i'd say they were pretty good and definitely a good consistency.

ps, car had been on a run today and all spark plugs looked the same.....

No problems there, and no need to wet test IMHO. :y

I'd be well happy with those and look no further .. the small differences are well within "operator reader error" anyway .. :)

I checked the Haynes manual and official figures say (although how correct the Haynes is I have no idea lol) are as follows....

each cylinder to be betweeb 174 and 218 psi.

each cylinder to have a difference of no more than 15psi to its brothers and sister.

Good stuff fella.

Nice to get results that suggest ones engine is basically as good as new, in fundamental ways.  :y

The wet test is a pretty shit test anyway....unless you can get the exact correct same volumes of oil in all the cylidners and get it onto the rings (pretty much impossible with central spark plug holes).

And if you dont get the exact quantity in each you get big differences.

Plus pretty much all piston tops are shaped with either valve pockets, combustion chambers etc etc....
