I'm confused  ::)

This thread was talking about a misfire and various sensors... then a load of pics of what looks to be gummed up valve cover and a bent oil filter (?).

Can someone explain what's happened :)

So, some oil contamination (water), this has clogged things up and the oil pump has collapsed the oil filter its so clogged.

Oil filters normally collapse due to crudd and not Mayo hence question about service history

i did wonder about the water contamination but thought it looked more like mayo as opposed to the stuff built up in that valve cover  :y

thanks for explanation though  :y :y :y :y

That's the worry...that's a lot of water and not something seen in your link.

Oh yes, the plastic will be from the timing chain guide

Front timing chain cover gasket behind water pump can let water into sump,seen a couple of headgaskets changed on these needlessly :-\

Worth a clylinder leakage test to discount head gasket and coolant pressure test to prove timing cover gasket leak.

edit. (noted no water loss?, even if it was entering the sump via water pump seal, it still a loss of coolant and possible increase in oil level?)

Looking at the pictures I find it hard to believe that there is no water loss unless some dopey dipstick has added water via the filler cap by mistake ::)

So far so good.

So the cause is the plastic chain tensioner breaking up which then blocks the oil way to the head which starves the tappets of oil.

going to read it again.

1, The knock sensor causes the misfire from the noise created from the tappets?
2, valves opening late/closing early due to hydraulic tappets empty?

there was no plastic in the sump. just alot of shit and small pieces of oil filter. i took out the tappets and blew the oil ways out. had alot of small pieces of paper from the filter come out. read it again iv looked at it a few times. glad it has solved the problem. :y :y :y :y
