Yep, got an Acer netbook here that's giving sterling service. Needs a fresh battery, mind, but I rarely use it away from mains.

I don't what it is with laptops. I seem to kill them. About every 15-18 months except for the one I use in the garage which is a real cheap one from Novatech which takes shit loads of abuse. PC world must hate me, I always take the extended warranty/accident damage. My last laptop must of gone back 4 times completely mullered and without a quibble they always fixed it. My current HP is doing well but is just starting to show signs of failing.

My HP is doing well. Was Vista vintage, so guess 4 or 5 years old now. Had a new battery a year or 2 ago. Comes in the bath with me, as I'm sure most members know.

Not as impressive as my old tosh, that fell in the water on a few occasions, got dropped from a height (which broke hinges), and I gave to my mate when I bought the HP. He still uses it :o

Acer have some of the worse warranty returns in the business, percentage wise. Although given the target market, probably not surprising.

My Acer extensa had exactly the same problem as Vamps' HP. Eventually I had to buy discs from Acer for £60 to fix it. Apparently I could have bought them with the machine for £10, which of course the shop didn't mention at the time. >:( >:( >:( Lesson: Never buy a computer without seperate backup discs! :y

All Acers I've had have been rubbish, last a year roughly. Got a Dell which I got in 2008, and it's been very good.

Not sure how you treat the batteries Kev.......but i mullered two dell laptops batteries by leaving them on charge 24/7. The cheap Advent notebook i have now is probably 3 years old (had XP on it originally, now has doz7) I unplug it when not in use and purposely let the bat go flat every few months.....it still seems to hold it charge well and lasts as long as when i first bought it  :y

Have had 2 acer's in the past. Not the cheaper variants either. Both of them last about 12 - 18 months.
