Few Mechanical Based Questions
« on: 04 March 2013, 20:21:53 »

Hi guys, im looking to replace all the Lambda sensor in my 03 3.2 Elite, but i want to make sure that these are firstly the correct ones, and secondly if they are reliable parts

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NGK-Oxygen-O2-Lambda-Sensor-Vauxhall-Omega-3-2-09-00-0-/290449780965?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a027f0e5

Also anyone know where i can get a stainless steel exhaust system for the same car? I am based in slough so the closer the better :) <--- This is more of a future plan, as i have been told that a good Stainless Steel System can set me back up to £300, but at least ill have a starting point

Lastly this is a very strange question but is it possible to a Auto 6-Speed Gear box made for me my Elite? Or are there any already made ones, which i really doubt as i dont think you can just whack on a 6-speed gear box on one of these.  Sorry if my terminology is all out of shape, my dads the spanner head in the family haha :) <--- This is more of an experiment, if its even possible to do LOL, again another future plan sort of thing :D

My dad has one of those car diagnostic scan tool, and when he used it, it came back with something to do with a Sensors, i cant remember exactly what it said, but he said the sensors need to changed. I have also been told that this is common with this car, so its no biggy :D

and are those ones on ebay the correct ones to replace all 4, (i think there's 4) ?

You need to be very certain ... and one way is to do the "pedal trick" if you have the warning light still on. My guess is you have the 0420/0430 problem which is very common to these cars.

Now, see, there a numerous codes related to lambdas, and not all of them mean the sensor needs replacing. Best price I have seen is just over £50 for 02 sensors. So best way your looking at £100 for two, most likely.

Now tell me you Dad won't be pissed off if he spends £100 and there is no change? Because I'd not be best pleased if it was my £100.

Thing is, I'm almost cirtain you've asked this before, and I'm almost cirtain the problem was pre cat efficiency 0420 0430. Which is of no consequence to emissions at all.

If that's the case, new o2's will make no odds to the code raised.

However, if we are to advise correctly, we need to know the exact code stored.

What was the exact code? :)

Hi Chris sorry for the extremely late reply, been out of the country for a while, and when i got back barely been home.

Ok so one of the codes i am getting is: P0420 , and i have forgotten the other one . But it said: Heated Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank l and 2), and yes Entwood, my dad told to try that and see what readings i get.

Also the car seems to vibrate and shake about every time i accelerate, if i accelerate lightly then its fine, but under normal and harsh acceleration the rear of the car vibrates/shakes for a bit then once up to speed it stops shaking about. It might be that the car has been sitting around for quite some time, and i only just started driving yesterday. Although the car had been turned on once a week while i was away but not driven anywhere... Any advice?

First, dont fix anything until your sure exactly what your fixing.

See the maintenance guide section.
Index
Code reading 3.2 2.6
Pedal trick.
Read the codes. Video on your mobile helps, its very easy to loose count.
Post the codes on here.
Get advice
Go from there.

Fix nothing until then :y

To add, replacing lambdas absolutely will NOT fix 0420 0430.

Plus, sounds like it may have a missfire. 0300 p0301/2/3/4/5/6 according to which cylinder is missing.

OK, i will be doing the Pedal trick by this weekend :).

Also as for the car shaking/vibrating, its only coming from the rear of the car. My dad did have the Prop Shaft, Diff, and Drive Shafts changed, but the car was driving perfectly fine after he had them changed.
