Radiator fans
« on: 27 May 2013, 20:25:59 »

Under what conditions should the radiator fan behind the radiator operate? The two fans in front of the radiator kick in when the temperature gauge starts getting high[as when stood in traffic after a long run]but the single fan between the radiator and engine doesn't appear to run under any conditions. It is not seized[I can spin it by hand-with the engine off obviously]but it doesn't kick in with engine temperature, nor does it operate when the air con is turned on,so when should it work?Is it the air con which is not working as it should or something else entirely?By the way the car is a F/l 3.0V6 Elite.

It should run when the a/c runs, presumably just needed when stationary.

Have a search for "Terry Wong Catera Fan Test" on Yahoo Groups "Catera Owners"

Here is a post by him http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/CateraOwners/message/27671

You have to join the group and sign in to download the diagrams but it gives an explanation of which relays do what and how to test all the different permutations of fans running at half speed and full speed. :y
