Hi
That is very helpful.
We aren't high end users with posh software suites. The fact that we are upgrading from old PC's to these fancy HP Duo core 3Ghz jobbies gives enough clues.
I have been using Vista for a few months and don't see any slowness. (3GB RAM) .
So If I want to do a clean install Vista Business on the other machine with its COA sticker and have peace of mind for mine(32bit), what Windows Disc do I actually need to buy (off Ebay or anywhere else) ?
P4 based machines I guess.
You may find, as I eluded to earlier, that the COA sticker's key has been disabled. This started happening towards the end of the XP era, but different manaufacturers implemented this at different times.
You *may* find there is a recovery partition on disks, if it hasn't been pissed around with - although it is quite an old PC, it may have been from the era that HP made you stick in DVDRs a day or so after starting it up for the first time. You need to look

If you need to get a Vista disk - not legally available on its own - as I suspect the COA key is disabled, I think you may have to buy a full one

, which isn't really worth doing (looking in region of £70+). Being P4, I wouldn't like to say if Win 7 (same price) would run well on it... ...I have a couple of Dell P4's piled up here that I need to take to the dump, I suppose I could try it if they have enough memory in.
Either way, if you use a generic disk, you will still have fun and games with drivers, not to mention all the updates (lots in 6 years

). I hope your internet is good

What is the spec of the "new" machines - CPU and RAM. Also the precise model number. Once I have these, I may be able to advise the best course of action.
