Peugeot 206 brakes .......
« on: 05 March 2012, 14:46:01 »

The handbrake on SWMBOs 206 is almost vertical before it holds. Ok, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. I'm presuming it's not simply a case of tightening again, but before I go looking for something that's not there, are there 'tensioners' or something similar at the wheel end which may need replaced?
Any advice gratefully received. It's a 1.1S, 2004.
TIA

Um, I did SWMBO's 1.9D a year or so again but memory is pretty bad. I seem to remember there is adjustment at the base of the handbrake lever, (you have to remove trim to get to it) as well as adjustment at the rear cross beam, where the cable splits to either side. I honestly can't remember if I did any adjustment at the wheels...
Are you in a rush?
I get back home on thursday and that's where the manual is, I can have a quick look and fire off a message then.

Of course there will be more knowledgeable cleverer people on here that will be able to give you the answer in a couple of lambs tail shakes.

Thanks for that, and no rush at all. I was hoping it was something I could sort out myself? I just wasn't convinced that it would simply be a matter of removing the console and tightening the cable at the handbrake, and thought I would seek some guidance before I started! I had a quick online search there too but can't see any reference ...

More likely to be shoes than cables then?

When I did my daughters 1.4 206 I adjusted the rear shoes on the star wheel inside the hub.  :y Had to use a torch to see in there though. On an additional note, if it has that brake compensator thingy behind the rear offside wheel (bolted to the swinging arm with about four brake pipes going to it), make sure you give the moving arm a good dose of plus gas and a good old wiggle as they sieze up. If you have to remove the hub, the hub nut dust cover and hub nut are meant to be replaced (one shot nut).

The 206 should have the rotary adjuster wheel on the shoes, you need to back off the handbrake cables first then adjust the shoes then readjust the cables, that way may get the self adjusters working again :y

Im surprised that someone from the U.S. would even know what a Peugeot 206 was.  :)
Didn't think you would have cars that small over there. :-\
