57000 miles later
« on: 03 June 2013, 00:30:49 »

With 57000 on the clock and no history and Owing to it being a nice day i decided to do a cambelt change with all the trimmings,(pump etc) Along with a new aux belt, And a coolant flush and change.

After removing the two idler pulleys and giving them a spin in my hand they were like the wheels from a pair of old rollerskates from the 80,s.
The tensioner was not that good (dry/rough),yet the pump, seemed smooth and good,It was clear that these had been in from new.

The pump was marked (GM) And the belt was marked (GM/GATES)

40000 is right as there was no way the idler/tensioner would have much more left in them.

I noticed the GM pump fits on Only one way owing to the lug on the outer part of the pump.
But on the contitech pump it can be put on not quite right owing to the lug being too small and turns after its location point.(mirror job)

What i noticed is how much quieter the engine was.(very noticeable)  :y

Would it of been a good idea to change the aux belt tensioner too.

Were the blades for the water pump metal? If so that's very old, for last 2 cambelt changes I've done on mine GM waterpumps for 2.2 had plastic blades for water pump :)
