What's this flexible pipe for?

I discovered this broken flexible pipe as I was about to change my paper oil filter element, does anyone know what it is? 2000 MV6 3.0 saloon. Link below to image:

It's the heat sleeve from an old crank sensor ....... see the existing crank sensor next to it  ;) ;) ;)

Looks like you've got an oil leak as well. Possibly cam covers.
