Is your neighbour suffering the same issues :-\
His loss adjuster suggests a joint clearup, that he is willing to arrange. And obviously joint rebuild - we'd jointly prefer to use local builders, that are close by, for reasons of greater trust and convenience.

However, my claims handler seems less willing for this level of cooperation.

FFS! How can you build adjoining garages using separate builders?

Sounds like, if he had any common sense, he'd be lethal. ::)

Employed deliberately to frustrate claimants. Seems he is VERY good at his job.

Could/would your neighbours insurance sort everything and then bill your insurers :-\

Afterall, the whole situation is intertlinked, and presumably there is as much of his property on/in your property as vice versa. Besides, as any investigation would have ruled out foul play, there shouldn't be an issue with the claim.

If your assessor is that useless and unhelpful, all he needs to to is write a cheque for every related bill/invoice that lands on his desk.  Even Frank Spencer could manage that ::)

having been there with insurers on a major flood, I share your frustration.

first of all the loss adjuster is there to minimise the claim value - not to look after you.  Loss assessors can work for you but they're just as parasitic as loss adjusters and will charge you pounds!

Second, don't worry about the arrangements between builders and loss adjusters.  If there are backhanders it is not out of your pocket.  BUT make best friends with the builders when they turn up because if they want to do extra and say " it must be done because of Blah, blah" it is very hard for the loss adjuster to say no.

THird, the loss adjuster should be arranging for site clearance, building quites etc.  that's what you pay for.  If he is not then write to the insurer, not the loss adjuster and complain that he is frustrating the claim and if it continues you'll place a formal complaint with the insurer and the insuance ombudsman.  ( They hate the latter because no matter who's at fault, the insuer has to pay for it.)

in terms of content, create an inventory or everything and identiy its replacement at full market value ( i.e. internet order including delivery or high street price).  Accept cash settlement to full market value only.

I have 3 months of blazing rows with a loss adjuster, he finally realised the only way of getting  the job done and getting an easy life was agreeing to reasonable demands.  (from his point of view he ended up working evenings and weekends to respond to me which he hated - found out it was easier to agree).  I also made sure that the claim was 100% true so he could not block it anywhere.

Jamie organise a skip and let me know and i will come up and give you a hand to shift the rubble into said skip, job done and i am sure that others will willingly help out as well, then when that is done CURRIE TIME.

Much appreciated, but I pay these useless mongrels for insurance, so they can sort it out. Christ, in 23yrs of home ownership, I've never put in a claim for anything....
