Idly looking through LPG conversions, I came across this page. I rather like the idea of the doughnut tank (top left), except what do you do about the spare wheel? (I know, don't carry one...and hope for the best!  )

As said .. carry an aerosol can of "gunge" .. but you risk destroying your tyre, and these ONLY work for small leaks.. rip the tyre and you are stuck.

Also .. my research indicated the biggest torodial tank was about 45ltrs gas .. now I'm getting about 4.0 miles/litre on gas .. which gives 180 miles at best, probably less when towing/around town .. possibly less ... and there are not THAT many LPG places ... so you could end up using petrol whilst looking for LPG .. NOT a cheap solution.

It was for these, and other, reasons I opted for the large 80 ltr (68 ltr gas) cylinder tank .. gives a range of around 250-300 and I still have a spare wheel.

OK  I've lost 1/3 of the boot.. but it's a damned big boot to start ..

It's not that big that I'd like to lose a third of it, I often fill mine when we go away with the 'van as that's where I carry the awning. Besides, a Senator's was bigger!

My daily car is a Citroen C4 7 seat thing :-/
It does not have a spare wheel at all, it has a can of tyre repair / gunge sturr and a small compressor.

Fair comment, but the number of LPG stations is on the increase and it wouldn't be too difficult to plan refuelling options before setting out.

Im considering 2 tanks a doughnut tank and a normal tank so when I need my boot pace (half a dozen times a year) I remove the large tank from behind the seats. I dont think an installer would do this for me, but theres nothing to stop me doing it

I looked long and hard at doing this. As said, 45 litres usable is about the limit for a vertical tank in the space available. Even that was looking marginal from my measurements and I wouldn't have liked to order one without offering one up to check the fit.

They are also quite fussy about orientation (must be true vertical) and quite a tricky install. I came to the conclusion that it probably wasn't worth the hassle. I will probably go for a cylinder when I eventually decide enough is enough.

What to do with spare wheel is easy enough. Put it in the boot. Mine's empty 90% of the time anyway. The odd time you travel with it full, chance it on some tyre weld.
