vauxhall Vivaro diesel
« on: 28 August 2013, 03:09:13 »

Hi all, does it have a rev limiter as well as speed limiter. It is an ex fleet van from some company or other on a 07 plate. The only fault code showing is the egr bypass solenoid, but it wont rev to 3000. It seems smooth enough until it gets there then just stops. No eml on or anything so could the egr stop it revving. I heard a rumour a lot of the fleet vans had limiters for speed and  revs, if so can they be programmed to remove it with tech 2?
Thanks in advance,  Al

Speed limiter will be what's specified by the fleet company, usally 68mph,rev limiter should rev to max permitable revs, they won't rev to max revs when stationary tho. :y

Cheers, next question is can the speed limiter be removed, I guess would need tech 2 or would it be the Renault version?

Depends as much on why it was fitted :-\

In what sense? It is an ex fleet van so as I understand it, it will have been programmed in from new. Think I will email Kevin as he is local and has tech 2.

I'd be happy to take a look. :y Never looked at one before, but I assume any limiter will be programmable by Tech 2 or the rev limit is happening due to some sort of limp-home response to a fault. Either way, I'm sure it would shed some light.

Earlier replies state that it won't rev when sat still and he hasn't tried while driving. I have cheap autocom and all it shows is the egr solenoid, I figured that might cause rough running but not stop it revving. Advice since points to the fact it shouldn't rev any way so aside from needing the egr sorting hopefully it just needs the speed limiter sorting.

If the EGR was stuck open it would have now power as the Turbo wont spool up (exhaust gases bypass the turbo into the inlet)

On a diesel the EGR is often open at idle and the smoothness is not affected.

Cheers Mark, if i remember right from last night the egr was open at idle and live data showed it closing as we gave it a rev. Code was for egr cooling bypass solenoid short (p2425 iirc). I only plugged it in to clear the airbag light, then he asked about the speed and rev limit and that is when I found the egr code. Still, got me out of fixing helicopters for a few hours.

So EGR is working as expected by the sound of it (closing when revved e.g. when spooling the turbo).

The Renault engine has an EGR cooler bypass device, check this (seem to recall its vac operated) which allows the exhaust gases to bypass the cooler.
