Oh to have bought a lot of Nokia shares yesterday - 40% up today on yesterdays prices.. or, better still, in the middle of 2012 when shares were $1.75 and have had just about a four fold increase since!

Lot of money to be made if you are in the know, I've got Sky Sharesave Scheme, but separate to that think I'll buy some separately on their next big fall.

After the buy-out failed, shares dropped to around £6 or so, now back up to £8.50.

Curious to see how this works out, pretty sure the "Nokia" name will cease to exist

Don't they have other interests, like mast electronics, network stuff, set top boxs etc?

This deal is only for mobile handsets. Nothing more.

Some of their other interests have already been sold off.

This is why Microsoft was forced to buy Nokia. They are advancing Nokia $1.5bn in three $500m tranches. Either Nokia would have gone bust = no more Windows 8 phones or they were on the verge of switching to the Android camp = no more Windows 8 phones. Without Nokia, Windows 8 mobile is dead as only Samsung and HTC have made token efforts to release a phone about 6 months after their Android phones.

With Android with 80% of the market and Apple most of the rest, they may well be just extending the inevitable demise as both Blackberry and Windows 8 mobile are in intensive care and are on the critical list. Apple and Google have both shown that it is not just about the hardware, but the whole phone ecosystem, especially the number and quality of Apps. Is this the VHS - Betamax battle all over again?

Blackberry are desperate, absolutely desperate for Sky to build Apps, such as Sky+ and Sky Sports. We've done a Sports one, but I can't see it getting regular updates.

Windows Apps are the same, MS were so keen for Apps, they built them for us.

Unless MS want to pay for further Apps, can't see Sky kicking out apps for that platform.
