V6 Omegas are dirty engines so hit the higher brackets.

WRONG

They are a very clean engine, the thing is they are designed for good emmisions not to pass a CO2 (which is NOT a pollutant) test.

Don't think there is a need to shout here Martin.

Where do you base your facts on that i am wrong, and need to shout the fact?

Some facts and figures, here, using the BMW 5 series as an example.

I am using data from the old shape here, not the new! so the same age design as the Omega:

Vauxhall Engine 2.5 V6:

2.5i V6 GLS 4d Auto (AC)        24 mpg        276 g/km
2.5i V6 24V GLS 4d        27 mpg        251 g/km

BMW 2.5 S6:

525i 4d        30 mpg        225 g/km

525i 4d Auto        27 mpg        247 g/km

The 3.5 V8 BMW engine, is a fraction more on CO2 than the 2.5 V6!

535i 4d (00)        23 mpg        283 g/km

The 3.2 Omega is:

3.2 V6 24V MV6 4d Auto        23 mpg        284 g/km

So overall, the 3.5 V8 BMW, with 2 more cylinders, a lot more BHP, is less dirty than a 3.2 Omega.

Omega's have dirty engines  ;)

Sorry CO2 is NOT a pollutant - what about CO HC ect?

Also the figures are skewed by the cold start gearbox system

The reason given for not classifying CO2 as a pollutant is based upon the fact that it is a natural component of the atmosphere and needed by plants in order to carry out photosynthesis.

No one would argue the fact that carbon dioxide is a necessary component of the atmosphere any more than one would argue the fact that Vitamin D is necessary in the human diet.

However, excess Vitamin D in the diet can be extremely toxic . Living systems, be they an ecosystem or an organism, require that a delicate balance be maintained between certain elements and/or compounds in order for the system to function normally.

When one substance is present in excess and as a result threatens the wellbeing of an ecosystem, it becomes toxic, and could be considered to be a pollutant, despite the fact that it is required in small quantities.

Not as if i copied and pasted that  ::)

But think of it as beer, the human body likes some of it.

But too much, and it can kill you.

Same for CO2  ;)

tbh i don't give a monkeys what comes out of the tail pipe of my Omega, this started because i mentioned Omega engines are dirty (based on co2 which is what car tax will be based on) compared to other big engined cars out there.

When places like China pump out 10 times more than what we do, little things we do here make no difference.

Ever see a long distace drive on the Toyota Prius?

They drove it from London to Paris, behind it, drove a BMW 520 derv.

Prius average mpg - 53.
BMW average mpg - 48.

Not a lot in it, i suspect a 320d would have done 53+!
