Sorry to enter the "p" word debate but recent promises in exchange for votes by various parties really do demonstrate to me (as if proof were needed
) that I wouldnt trust any of them. Like many I agree with bits and pieces from all parties but similarly violently disagree with others. Tories? They'll never really rise above looking after the better off and keeping the money in the pockets of the few. UKIP? Actually brave enough to talk about politically "taboo" subjects that are of genuine concern to voters but may mask the nasty side of right wing thinking. Still not bright enough either. LibDems? Probably get in bed with anyone if they need to despite pretence of integrity soul searching. Labour-still havent learnt. Too many stuck in the mire of PC and Nanny state. And what of recent promises? School meals? There are certainly some children/families that need support. But it needs to be considered and targeted. As already noted, why should hard pressed taxpayers pay for the school dinners of children whose parents drop them off to school in expensive SUVs and all their clothes come from Next etc . Besides this, what about the logistics and cost? Whose going to do the cooking, distribution etc? Most old school kitchens are long long gone. Bedroom tax reform I can see however. Of course there is a case for looking into social housing and its distribution but the so called bedroom tax is not fair and too many people are going to suffer when they should not. The real issue of course is all around housing itself and the lack of affordable housing whether it be council or private. As for the latest about child care! FFS, when are we going to learn that perhaps the best thing to do would be to strive to generate jobs that would provide a wage which people could live on and a welfare system that would rather encourage a parent (mum or dad) to stay at home and look after their child up until 4 rather than farm them out.We have already bred generations who think nothing of farming out their kids to be bought up by others with all that entails so lets not prolong these issues.Besides, where exactly are these jobs that these parents can take on to warrant the need for extra childcare provision? And again, where is the money coming from to re-open the third of the previous governments childrens centres that have now closed? Of course there are multiple tax loops that can be closed that too many companies are still allowed to take advantage of which can generate a fair amount but some of these ideas seem truly unworkable. Sorry to rant. On the other hand, the main question for me today is.......can the baggies find the back of the net and actually win a game?
