Front and rear crank seals (V6)
« on: 29 September 2013, 19:09:38 »

Presumably genuine is best?

Notice that Elring do them (but they aren't noted for anything other than there head gaskets on a V6) but does anyone have any experience?

Probably, but the work involved in getting to the rear just doesn't justify fitting a cheapo seal. The front seal though, by comparrison is a piece of cake to get to.

A rear seal was £30-odd about 18months ago from Vauxhall ....... which for a double lipped lip seal is extortionate!  ???

Agreed.

I guess half the job is accomplished when you are planning to drop the gearbox anyway.  :)

...... or when you drop the car off at the garage for someone else to do it.  ::) ::)

The trouble with not doing it yourself, is that at some time later you might end up crawling under the car to replace the down pipe gaskets that the garage used exhaust paste on & reclip the the wiring for the lambda sensors back to the gear box  >:(

Changed mine first time I did the clutch as it had a slight weep, trouble is I put it in dry, and it started dripping first time I drove it :'(

Paid a gearbox place £200 to replace it, including a new seal, as I didn't fancy dropping the box twice in one week on the drive ::)
