Assylum Seekers in Mediterranaian
« on: 12 October 2013, 22:48:10 »

Personally I really don't care if they drown, sorry yes but from a humanitarian point of view the Mediterranean countries should rescue the survivors and take them back from whence they came. The people who are responsible for this human disaster should be shot and the boats stopped from leaving port Why can't we stop this mass immigration to Europe because we know full well they will end up here >:( >:(. As soon as these people gain access to The EU they end up in the UK...... >:( >:(.

They wont be hear for at least 12months, that's a out how long it takes to get all,of there Italian passport made and filled in then they are eu citizens, next stop immigrant holiday camp england(London).
its about time the rules of the Geneva convention were used properly, they should claim asylum in the first friendly country they reach,. Now ive got a geography O level and from west or east Africa Europe is not the first country you come to.

This county's biggest problem is any politician who stands and says about mass immigration being wrong and send them back to bongo bongo or what ever is classed as a racist.

only country to have a decent immigration policy is Australia, all boat people, illegal immigrants are sent to an island (or is it guinne) were they are assessed then a decision is made, most get repatriated, but we cant do that due to the human rights do gooders.

Agreed :y The Australians have a tough but fair policy, and as I understand it, human rights are respected, but if you don't qualify for asylum, then you're sent home, end of.

All asylum seekers to Australia have to come through a single point. Anyone who tries to bypass the system, either gets taken back to that point or back from whence they came. They don't set foot in Australia proper until they're officially accepted there. In fact, the island in question isn't even Australian iirc :-\

Not dissimilar to the American approach of Ellis Island at the start of the 19th century :y

Australia is still a sovereign country though, and so still has the right to decide its own policy on immigration and all other matters.  ;)

A minor technicality ::) Certainly nothing a modest referendum revolution won't sort out :y

I don't think that chucking them in concentration camps like the Australians do is the answer to be honest, because it dosn't seem to deter people from trying to reach Australia!  :-\

There are currently around 8500 people held in Australian immigration detention centres around Australia and on Christmas Island, and yet they still come!!  ::)

I think that stopping them from landing in the EU in the first place is a better bet.  You'd think that with the money and resources at the disposal of the EU and with the available surveillance technology, these boats could be spotted, intercepted and escorted back to Libya or wherever they've come from!  :-\
