Hi
Just a couple of suggestions

In the past i have had the same due to over heating sticky brakes on one side due to a semi-seized caliper. this would be obvious by feeling for excessive heat from any one wheel when stopped after the incident.

Have you lost of one of the front wheels a large wheel balancing weight. this can cause some real strong wobbling depending on weight lost.

As for banging when going over bumps i would check wishbone bushes or ball joints

this would be pointing to drop links if you ask me, all of these components are easily repaired by a good independent, i would suggest using lemforders replacement parts they have lasted well on mine. to scrap a car for what'S on that list would be wrong, for a couple of hundred you'd have trouble free motoring again, my omega has costed me pennies in the last two years with me doing 40k within that time.

So I need 2 new wishbones, two new droplinks and just my luck have just found out that I need two front tyres as well because the inside of the tyres are completely worn out and only have 3 treads!!! I'm getting it all done as I have been under the car today and the wishbones are literally made of rust. I poked a hole one, I don't know how I've managed like this as this is so bad I could have been killed. Drop links look ok but for £10 you can't go wrong.

This:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-FRONT-SUSPENSION-WISHBONE-ARMS-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-DROP-LINKS-X-2-NEW-/121024767080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AVauxhall%7CModel%3AOmega&hash=item1c2da36468

For £60 you get free delivery and 2x wishbones and 2 Anti roll bars.

Is that all I need or do I need some sort of extra bolts/bushes or anything like that?

Not too bothered about tyres I can use the spare one and I have another spare 205/65/15 from another car.

Hopefully this is job done now and the car should be good for another year!!!

(I'm getting this all done now with all deliberate speed as I had a brown trouser moment on the third lane M65 today)

Read the guide on fitting bones etc.

Oe type bushes MUST have the front wishbone bolt tightened wheels loaded/car at normal ride height. Or the bushes will fail early and you'll be back to square one!

Also after market bushes are something of a lottery re quality. If you go for those, be warned, but do let us know how they last, please. :y

I always put oil inside the rubber dust cover of the ball joints of the wishbone and drop links as this makes them last a lot longer. a good 3 times longer for the sake of a little oil..
I use a syringe with oil in it and put it under the rubber to sit under and on the ball joint.... best for lubrication... as most have no grease these days.... they last too long...

For the sake of a few pence , why not replace the anti roll bar bushes . Always overlooked and easy to fit . Causes rattling as well and replaced every set on an omega where they have been worn badly ..

It wasn't on an omega - but I had awfull judder throught the steering on my Carlton for several years. I replaced everything at least once - sometimes twice. Shocks, springs, top mounts, wishbones, trackrods, rollbar, droplinks, subframe, tyres, wheels, bearings, brake disks, calipers, pads.

It turned out to be the centre tie bar - that long bar that runs under the sump from the steering arm to the steering idler. Symptoms were that if you hit a pothole (or similar) the steerring would vibrate as if the front tyres were massively out of balance, or you had brake disks warped to factor 9. The only way to stop the vibration was a light application of brakes which would then damp down and stop the vibration till the next pot hole.

Just an update for those who are interested, it was actually the track rod thing that was gone and not the wishbone, although they are very rusty, it dosent affect its strength and its fine which saved money. I got two new front winter tyres, got the wiper linkage repaired and got an oil leak stopped.

Took the car out, no wobble at all, the knocking has become quieter and the wheel feels so much lighter, I can spin it using one hand now. Feels like a new car.

All courtesy of my dad. Very pleased :D.
