I sort of understand the theory behind it, as even with the engines running, the blades are only spinning at 1-200rpm. So falling out of the sky, engines off is broadly similar to gliding with alot less lift, and a bit less control, as the blades will only manage to turn at a fraction of their normal speed :-\

Practiced to death in the simulator, but the reality of such manoeuvres in an emergency leaves alot to chance :-\

Not detracting from the gravity of this terrible situation, but.....
just watching BBC News 24, and the pratt who was interviewing Milliband made the statement..'There have been a couple of police helicopter crashes in Scotland over the last decade or so, is it not time to question the use of police helicopters'

Where do they find these idiots from !!!!!!!! >:(

Just heard on the News at least 6 people dead, but unconfirmed, bit confused as to the unconfirmed,  guessing some people may still be trapped inside, 11 hours later?
