Central Locking problems
« on: 21 November 2013, 15:17:50 »

Hi

New to Omega ownership, having driven Mercedes (W124) E280 estates for last 10 years.

Elite 2.6 Estate, 53 plate. Lots and lots of gadgets all of which work, some when I'm not expecting it.!!! It's a bit thirsty, but very comfortable.

Popped down the glen to the rubbish bin, yes we take our household rubbish down to a communal bin 2 miles down the road.

Got out, left key in ignition, shut drivers door, opened tailgate, deposited rubbish, closed tailgate.......... all doors locked.. key inside...car blocking road for logging wagons....pouring rain walked 2 miles home got spare key and Audi, went to retrieve car. Opened using fob all OK.

Since then everything works fine using the remote fob, all door buttons open and close as expected. However when I close the drivers door,(and only the drivers door) whether I am in the car or outside, whether the ignition key is in or not, all the doors lock.

If I'm inside, the door handle won't open the door, the remote fob does and opens all other doors.

So any ideas what it is that is loose/wet/shorting that activates with the vibration of the door closing?

This is probably something very simple like a door locking solenoid, as the mechanical bits all do what they are supposed to do I think.
ie all the buttons move freely.

Any help or advice very welcome.

Daft question .. when you unlock the car does the drivers door lock "button" pop up and stay up ??

Sounds like it is either staying down or the mechanism "thinks" it is staying down, as pressing it down before closing the drivers door gives exactly what you are experiencing ..

If it is staying down, try pulling it upwards and see if that affects the problem

Hi

Button pops up when unlocked with fob, it goes down when locked. I will check in the morning whether it is travelling to its full height.

Thanks for your help.

I think I'd try A  N Other driver's door locking motor (both fronts are the same) and see what happens  :-\ :-\

Hi

Absolutely correct, button comes up but only about 7/8 of the full travel. if I put it up the last 1/8 problem goes away. Seems to be mechanical stopping button travel, any idea how to fix it. Thanks

Sounds like some form of "sticktion" in the mechanism ... I'd be taking the door card off and having a good look fo anything rubbing or restricting the free movement of the linkage, and maybe  a small amount of light silicon grease on all moving bits where they touch ...

A tired solenoid won't be helping matters :-\

Replacing the solenoid and cleaning/lubricating the actual lock mechanism as suggested by Entwood should see the issue dealt with :y

You will need to remove the mechanism from the door to inspect it properly, any rusting or wear should be obvious :y
